Photograph Album Depicting Bridges Around the World

1880s-1900s. Album binding containing 112 albumen, silver gelatin and cyanotype photographs of bridges around the world, preceded by a manuscript index listing each photo by photographer, title and number. The album contains images of prominent bridges, mainly in the United Kingdom, Europe, and the United States, as well as a handful of images of bridges in India, South Africa, and Mexico. The album includes 13 photographs by William Henry Jackson, depicting bridges in Mexico and the American West, as well as three cyanotypes depicting caissons for the Williamsburg Bridge in New York City. Around 60 of the images appear to be reproductions of other photographs or of illustrations in books. Album leaves warped, with minor soiling and occasional chipping. Album disbound with rear cover damaged. Wear and discoloration to covers. Item #9739
