Collection of Three Blossom Festival Programs From Saratoga, California
Saratoga, California: 1902 to 1913. A collection of three programs for the Blossom Festival, an annual event held in Saratoga, California to enjoy the flowering prune and apricot trees in the city, which, by 1900, had the largest prune and apricot orchards in the country. The event was founded in 1900 by a retired minister as a thanksgiving for the ending of a years long drought; by the 1920s, the interurban railway brought thousands of visitors to the festival, which lasted an entire week. The programs print local ads, a schedule of events, a list of attractions (including a Japanese village) and songs and poems by local residents. Included is a four page program to the third annual festival, held in 1902; an eight page program for the thirteenth annual festival, which also served to promote the town, printing ads for local real estate companies and text touting the agricultural richness of the Santa Clara Valley; and a four page program for the fourteenth annual festival. Toning and creasing to programs, tears to fourteenth annual program, foxing, tearing, and marginal chip to third annual program. Item #9495
