First edition. 8vo, original green cloth, 211 pp. This copy inscribed by the author, Charles Colcock Jones Jr, who was a prominent Georgia politician, attorney, and author, as well as the the mayor of Savannah immediately prior to Sherman's March to the Sea. He was known as the "Macaulay of the South." The letter is to Prosper Berckmans, a prominent Augusta, GA horticulturalist and owner of Fruitland Nursuries. Together with a laid in two page letter from the author to Berckmans, dated 1891 at Augusta, Georgia, exchanging pleasantries and describing the enclosed book. Item #7431
