The text notes that "it is now a well recognized fact that commercial or chemical fertilizers are considered necessary to the successful growth of citrus fruits." The broadside discusses the means of obtaining these fertilizers, which were imported by local fruit exchanges through the port of San Francisco, and provides a list of suggested ratios for mixing the fertilizers.
