Cleveland Troubadours Light Opera Company Scrapbook

Cleveland, Ohio: 1930s. Scrapbook measuring 11.5 x 8", contianing approx 18 ephemeral items and 4 photos, many laid in, some pasted in, plus many newspaper clippings. Includes signed programs, company correspondence, broadsides, and photos of costumed performers (two measuring 8 x 10"). A collection of programs, broadsides, and typescripts relate to a performance of Robin Hood, including scripts and a typescript of stage directions with the repeated admonition to "original typescript stage directions for ROBIN HOOD, with the repeated admonition to "WATCH YOUR CONDUCTOR AND MEMORIZE YOUR STAGE BUSINESS." Clippings, brochures and programs advertise CTLOC productions of (among others) The Mikado, Balfe's The Bohemian Girl, Friml's Firefly, and Straus' The Chocolate Soldier; a program for the latter bears signatures from the full main cast. As the performing company of the Community Opera League of Greater Cleveland, the Troubadours existed in part to provide performing opportunities to young singers and devoted amateurs; Wadsworth's production of Wallace's Mariana brought guest singer Betty Hanna to Cleveland, praised in the attached clipping as a Star of the Music World; Hanna had a successful television career in later years, and is one of the better known performers memorialized here. Toning to album leaves, mild wear to edges and corners, one album leaf detached, contents very good. Item #5230
