Early Photo Album of Views of Livingston, Montana and the Surrounding Area, Including Yellowstone National Park

Livington, Montana: 1906-1908. Album binding of black cloth measuring 11 x 7.25", containing 80 photographs, with the first few pages captioned. The images depict the town of Livingston, Montana and the surrounding area. Located along the Yellowstone River, Livingston and its train station served as the first gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Roughly half of the images are nicely taken landscape shots--the Yellowstone River, waterfalls in nearby Yellowstone national park, canyons and mountains, animals including grazing sheep and bison, etc. Another 20 or so images document subtle human alterations to the environment--fences, railroads, bridges (including several shots of the newly constructed Horvat's bridge). There are also several aerial views depicting clusters of buildings and photos of men and women recreating in nature, plus six photos of a football game played against Powell City High School, a photo of the railroad depot, a picture of a parade downton, and seven photos of burned buildings and rubble after the notable fire of March, 1908 devastated the town. Overall in excellent condition, minor wear to covers and two images missing, one album leaf torn (missing half of leaf). Item #4944
