Anadarko, Oklahoma: Circa 1950s-60s. A collection of eighteen black and white photographs, each approximately 4.5 x 4", all but two captioned in the margins of the photos. A group of photographs centered on a Native American parade held in Anadarko, Oklahoma, likely a part of the American Indian Exposition, an annual celebration held there since 1924. 12 of the photographs depict Native American parade participants in traditional garb, including "Chief White Calf and Family", Apaches, "Cree Tribe Ready to Play a Ball Game," Kiowas, Comanches, "The Mudheads," "Dance of the Mountain Spirits," Cheyennes, etc. The remaining photographs center on Ernie Keahbone, a Native American artist who in 1954 founded Indian City, USA, a living history museum in Anadarko. These images appear to have been taken there, and show Native Americans in traditional wear, including "Ernie Keahbone's Nephew," "Dancer at Indian Village," "Ernie's Sister," and "With Frank Bosin Chief of the Kiowas."
