Collection of Photographs Belonging to Florrine Antone, a Student at the Phoenix Indian School
Phoenix, Arizona: 1950s. A collection of nine leaves of card stock, each 11 x 8.5", with 104 black and white photographs cornered in on either side, a handful captioned or inscribed. A collection of photographs belonging to Florrine Antone, a member of the class of 1954 at the Phoenix Indian School of Arizona, hailing from the Salt River Reservation. Roughly 40 of the images were taken at an interracial youth camp, abbreviated "P.C.C.", and likely run by the YMCA (one of the girls is wearing a "Tri-Hi-Y" shirt). Shown are the camp's cabins as well as campers posing for the camera or gathered for various activities (a number of African American campers are shown). The remaining photos consist of portraits of Phoenix Indian School students, several of which are inscribed to Florrine. There are also images taken around the school campus, and a couple of photos inscribed by Native American servicemen who were members of the Coops family, into which Florrine later married. Images show black paper residue to versos, as well as old tape on many of the images suggesting that the compiler assembled this album later on from an earlier album. Item #15296
