Two Promotional Booklets From the Waldeck Sanatorium and Training School for Nurses.

San Francisco: Freygang-Leary Co., [1898]. Pair of oblong stapled booklets, one 12.25 x 7.25", [18] pp, titled "The Waldeck Sanatorium and Training School for Nurses," the other 9 x 6.75", [16] pp, titled "Compliments of the Waldeck". A pair of promotional booklets for the Waldeck Sanatorium and Training School for Nurses, an institution founded in San Francisco in 1894. The larger booklet contains promotional text for the facility, with each page of text accompanied by a page of advertisements, mainly for medical equipment or for San Francisco businesses. The text describes the course of study at the nursing school (with outlines of coursework for 1897-98), and touts the new, state of the art facilities "for the care of invalids and the treatment of surgical cases," including sterilization, an electric call bell, and facilities for medical electricity located in each room. The smaller booklet, meanwhile, prints seven half-tone views of the institution, including the reception room, the operating room, and the roof garden, accompanied by promotional text. Neither booklet found in OCLC. Both booklets removed from scrapbook with paper residue obscuring most of rear cover (consisting of an advertisement) on larger booklet, paper residue and area of abrasion to rear cover of smaller booklet with loss to part of a view of the building.
