Easy and Practical Cooking

Lexington, Kentucky: [Transylvania Press], 1908. 8 x 5.25", green cloth with gilt lettering, 92 pp plus two pages of ads for a Kentucky flour company and blank memorandum leaves at the end. A cookbook by a Lexington, Kentucky woman, about whom we could glean little information other than that she was a "splendid housekeeper" (The Lexington Herald, 12/13/1908), and that she sold her own homemade candies in a local store (Lexington Herald advertisement, 12/5/1913). Scott states in her preface that "it has been my aim and object in compiling this book to give the best recipes in as simple form as possible." Thus, the recipes within are quite basic and are sometimes accompanied by cooking tips and hints--plain omelet, scrambled eggs, a few rules for making soups, fry fish, bake fish, tomato soup, gumbo Kentucky style, and more. A manuscript recipe for cheese cake is laid in. A nice copy with hint of wear to covers, bit of foxing and offsetting to endpapers. Item #10871

Price: $150.00
